Hymn of the day

by Richard on April 24, 2011

Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia!
Earth and heaven in chorus say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heavens, and earth reply, Alleluia!

Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids him rise, Alleluia!
Christ has opened paradise, Alleluia!

Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
Once he died our souls to save, Alleluia!
Where’s thy victory, boasting grave? Alleluia!

Soar we now where Christ has led, Alleluia!
Following our exalted Head, Alleluia!
Made like him, like him we rise, Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!

Hail the Lord of earth and heaven, Alleluia!
Praise to thee by both be given, Alleluia!
Thee we greet triumphant now, Alleluia!
Hail the Resurrection, thou, Alleluia!

King of glory, soul of bliss, Alleluia!
Everlasting life is this, Alleluia!
Thee to know, thy power to prove, Alleluia!
Thus to sing, and thus to love, Alleluia!

Blessed Easter to everyone.

My head and heart are still in Good Friday. My dad is probably going to die within the next few weeks (if not days) and my uncle, his brother, died yesterday.

But I thank God for the resurrection and I trust in God’s grace and mercy for us all.

Oh, Pam, that is hard. I’m glad you’re on that side of the Pond, but it’s still a hard time to go through.

Rev June Osborne, Dean of Salisbury Cathedral, was preaching this morning at the Easter Day Eucharist. She was talking about darkness and recounted how her mother had died just before Christmas and today would have been her birthday so today for the first time she would not be able to ring her up to wish her happy birthday. I thought it quite poignant that she should be appointed to preach about the hope of the resurrection today in particular. She was able however to say that nothing, not even death, can seperate us from the love of God as the women at the tomb and the disciples were soon to discover.

Now is not a good time for you Pam and I join my prayers with those of others who are praying for you now.

“Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you’” (John 20:19-21). Among and to yours too, Pam.
