The gospel in the theatre

by Richard on March 20, 2012

Very glad to give a bit of a plug for my friends at Applecart whose show “i am mark” is previewing in Wolverhampton before moving to the West End

Commanding demons and controlling storms, a lone man strides out of the desert and, gathering a nation around him, he turns towards certain death in an occupied land.

Ridding the tale of two thousand years of religious baggage, Applecart’s presentation of Mark’s Gospel combines drama, comedy, storytelling, music, and film to tell a story of revolution and courage.

‘i am Mark’ is an epic telling of the entire of Mark’s Gospel in two parts. Using fresh language for a modern audience, Applecart’s unique style of performance has attracted capacity audiences at festivals, universities and conferences around the country.

If you’re able to get to Wolverhampton or London, you should put this in your diary.

I really liked this 2:00 trailer quite a bit. So this is a “theatric” (i.e. live) production? I don’t see any easy way to get from San Jose CA to Leicester Square in May to see it. But I loved the segment.

You can find more of Applecart’s videos on YouTube and Vimeo if you’re interested. There’s some good stuff there.
