Todd Bentley banned from the UK

by Richard on August 23, 2012

From the Telegraph

Todd Bentley, who is based in the US and founded the revivalist organisation Fresh Fire USA, had planned to hold a string of meetings in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
He is currently in Norway for an event called Miracles, Signs and Wonders.
However, Mr Bentley has been told he was “not conducive to the public good” and was not allowed to enter the country.
The former drug addict, who describes receiving “prophetic and miracle-healing anointing” from God, has previously used his shows to “cure” cancer by kicking his followers in the face or stomach.
In clips, he is heard telling an audience: “And the Holy Spirit spoke to me, the gift of faith came on me. He said, ‘kick her in the face with your biker boot’. I inched closer and I went like this – bam! And just as my boot made contact with her nose, she fell under the power of God.”

I’m glad this charletan is banned.

Welcomed by some churches, banned by the state. Figure it

That isn’t satire, but sounds like it. I don’t think Hollywood could write Todd Bentley; he’d be seen as too out there even for fiction.

Kim, are you implying that the UK overstepped their bounds in the barring? It does create an interesting precedent that doesn’t bode well for groups with theologies/ideologies the government doesn’t like. Geert Wilders (the Islam-bashing Dutch pol) came to mind on that front of folks too hot for the UK to handle.

Yes, but as a kid. We normally don’t use youth convictions against adults assuming they otherwise keep their nose clean, at least not in North America. Whether his career as of late counts as “keeping your nose clean” is open to question, but I don’t quite think he’s done anything jail-able, being off by a year on said youth conviction in a statement notwithstanding.

While we can be very thankful Bentley isn’t coming to the UK, do pray for Norway where he is at present and the rest of Europe since he plans to use the time space he has to visit somewhere else in Europe.

Further to my last comment, as many may know Bentley has been touring Europe to fill the time that freed up from him not being able to enter the UK. Since finishing at Norway he has visited Finland as well as Austria so as to build up his network in those countries as well as Germany. Some live streams of what Bentley has been up to in Austria can be seen at this link:

Now Bentley has returned to Norway this weekend before returning to the US. The news has been saying in Norway that he is being welcomed there in the following article (though is only available in Norwegian) and want to extend his ministry in Norway:

however, there is as much criticism from the rest of the church in Norway, which is evidenced in the 75+ comments to the article on the same issues as raised in the UK. Though Bentley was not allowed in the UK, it is important to pray for Norway particularly, where much effort is being made to gain supporters there. Though Bentley’s work may be banned here, its influence is certainly present over the waters and will have still some effect. Please do pray for Norway and the rest of Europe at this time that they will be open to the truth.
