A revelation

by Richard on September 23, 2005

I’ve wondered for ages why any comment that refers to s-o-c-i-a-l-i-s-m or s-o-c-i-a-l-i-s-t ends up in the moderation queue — even if it’s by me. Finally, the penny drops. It’s because the name of a drug used to treat (ahem) “erectile dysfunction” (and therefore a common spam word) is contained within it. Don’t think there’s anything I can do about it, but I feel better for knowing.

The reason it does this is because Movable Type has a “Ridiculous Ideas” filter that weeds out words based on silly or outdated concepts. They put it in because only serious people use MT and serious people never have the need to use the term “s*cialism” in their comments. ; )

I wonder if there’s a WordPress version of that filter?

And there was me thinking it was because s o c i a l i s m makes you a better lover…

There is that, of course. ;)

How could it make you a better lover if it “steals” from people? I don’t see stealing as loving. Just having fun. ;) :)
