Football fever

by Richard on May 26, 2006

It is going to be one of the biggest games in Swansea City’s history. Tomorrow they meet Barnsley in the League One playoff for a place in the Championship, the second rung of British professional football. Exciting stuff. And along with my daughter and about 70 000 others, I’ll be there!

Do you know why Swansea City players aren’t allowed to own dogs? They can’t hold a lead!

So let’s see - how to spend Saturday afternoon? Take a nap or watch the Swans? Loyalty says the latter, excitement the former. Loyalty is over-rated!

As a Yank, I know football/soccer is called “the beautiful game”, but, my, the British do make it ugly.

Are we talking about Association Rules Football here…..?? I seem to have vague recolections about playing that game when I was little…. you know, before they introduce you to proper sports…..

You sound dangerously like an American, Malc. Kim at least has the excuse of not being born on the right side of the Atlantic. He can’t help it, poor thing.
I’m guessing, but I don’t think that snoozing will be an option in the Millennium Stadium tomorrow!

well, it’s not like I have to look to the States for better games (afterall, they do have American Football…..) I was quite happy to think of Rugby Union (as opposed to the league stuff which is for wimps), Cricket, Hockey, Badminton, Basketball (Canadian) and Ice Hockey (from Norfolk).

You know, I think I’d rather watch Golf on tv rather than this football stuff……

Brilliant, Malc - I can just see Richard watching “Golf on tv” - not!

Bah! I’m a Barnsley fan through and through so forgive me for not agreeing with your sentiments!

It’ll be a close game I think, too close to call. You’re good going forward but we have the best defence in the league. I live in fear of Rory “Barn Door” Fallon getting revenge on us though :-/

Football, rugby, golf on TV all leave me COLD - but by far the worst is Cricket on radio which has me hastening to switch form Long Wave to FM and back again to get the Daily Service (if I can work out what time of the morning they are going to have the tea interval). I reckon that cricket commentaries are the most boring in the world, especially when it goes like “He’s twiddling his bat! Do you remember So-and-So? He was the greatest bat-twiddler in the world!” Give me rowing, tennis, athletics, show jumping and ice dancing any day.

They have rowing, tennis, athletics, show jumping and ice dancing on the radio….??? That’s one of the nice thing about cricket is that it easilly submits to the radio format.

And yes, I am one of those people who would turn the sound down on the tv to listen to the radio commentry.
