Sheep gets TV haircut

by admin on April 28, 2004

Sheep gets sheared doesn’t sound like much of a headline. But when that sheep is called Shrek, and has avoided the shears for 6 years by escaping into the hills of New Zealand’s South Island it does take on a certain interest. The animal has managed to grow enough wool to make 20 men’s suits and is believed to have produced the largest fleece ever. And the “before the haircut” photo is a hoot.

During my cycling trip across Australia last year I stayed with a couple who had a piece of wool around a metre long framed up on their wall. It was a similar kind of thing with one sheep getting lost for a year or so.

When it was finally found they sheared it and produced an enourmous amount of wool.

How Shrek managed to survive with 60 pounds of wool on his body
is amazing. It that sheep had fallen into water, he’d be dead.

I like the before and after pictures and the fact he may well
have a good life promoting NZ wool, which is some of the finest
in the world.

that’s hillarious…I bet Shrek feels like the weight’s been literally lifted off his shoulders :-)

That was a sheep? Ohhhhhh … here I was under the impression that it was Elizabeth Taylor pausing on the runway wearing her new coat!
