Mike Blakey in the news

by Richard on December 7, 2006

Now the broadsheet newspapers have picked up the story
Daily Telegraph
The Guardian
The Independent
The Times

The tabloids have it too, but they’re not worth reading.

What irritates me is that at least one of these broadsheets had the story last week, because i emailed it to their newsdesk. But it obviously wasn’t news until all the other newspapers had it. The Independent quotes Mike’s words, but gets their context completely wrong.

I started knowing Mike soon after I started studying at Centre for Development Studies (CDS) in Swansea University. He had a very pleasant personality hrad to unnotice. In one of the university gatherings I was surprised to note that at such a young age he was actually working to establish charities in Africa. I found him very passionate and sensitive towards the poor and excluded people.

Mike was also a leading young man during the university student movement against the closure of various programs in CDS, inspiring others against the unjustice.

I reveived this news with profound sadeness. I believe this is the death of a visionary who was contributing towards changing the world of poverty. He has died but the beacon of hope is alive..and we all have to keep it alive. Humaity needs it badly.

I pray for eternal peace of his soul and for the courage for his family, colleagues and friends to bear this tragic lose.
