I learned this afternoon that Pawan Bhardwaj, the husband of Rachel Owen, who had been arrested on suspicion of Mike’s murder, has been released without charge. It appears that he has been completely exonerated, which is obviously great news. Michael’s missing mobile phone has been found in the Punjab, and a second man has been arrested — presumably for receiving stolen goods. I am told that the police in India have firm leads and are looking for a number of individuals in connection with Mike’s death.
A number of newspapers have made quite a bit of what turned out to be utterly groundless speculation about love triangles, wounded honour and ‘missing’ funds. I’m sure that they’ll give equal prominence to this new turn of events.
Right?

Although it’s brilliant news an innocent man has been released, such unfounded speculation can do untold damage even when it’s been completely disproved. Let’s hope and pray the charity hasn’t suffered too much by even the suggestion of impropriety.
Of course it is still very difficult for Michael’s family - still with no real answers and unable to organise the funeral while the investigations are ongoing.
What a difficult time for all concerned. My prayers are with them, particularly at what should be such a happy family time.
