Prayer for Wade Steffey’s Safe Return

by Ivan the Crank on January 20, 2007

We just learned that my wife’s cousin, Wade Steffey, has been missing since last Friday night. He is a freshman at Purdue University. Wade is the same age as our son, Chris, who is also away at college. We can not imagine what his parents, Dawn and Dale, must be going through. Please pray for him to show up safe and sound. The following link tells some of the most recent news about the search for Wade.

We’ll pray for him (already have, actually), and for his parents. I can’t even imagine what this must be like. Please keep us posted.

FP 01.20.07 at 1:25 pm

We will keep Wade and his family in our prayers.

Pam 01.20.07 at 2:15 pm

Adding my prayers.

Jan 01.20.07 at 7:49 pm

Will include him in my prayers.

BD 01.20.07 at 7:55 pm

Will pray for strength for the family, wisdom for the searchers and that God will be close.

Thanks, everyone, for your prayers. My wife just returned from visiting with Wade’s grandparents and as of yet, there is no further word. The authorities have focused on trying to find his cell phone on campus, which the phone company has given them approximate coordinates. There has also been a reward fund established. It’s sad to think, first of all, that someone might do anyone harm for any reason, but we all know the kind of world we live in. It’s also sad to think that it might take the offer of a reward just to get someone to give information that might lead to Wade’s return or other clues to help find him. My prayers are twofold: that he is safe somewhere and that God will lead people to help in his return. Threefold, actually, that God will also give his family strength and peace in the face of all this. Thanks again, everyone, for your prayers.

I am friends of the Shelbyville Steffeys and my wife and I are Curves owners. I have sent a bulk e-mail to all Indiana Curves owners and posted on a Yahoo Newsgroup for Curve Owners nationwide, asking for their help and prayers. We have been praying for Wade’s safe return ever since we found out about it.

Praying continuosly from Washington State that God will provide comfort, love and wisdom as only He can to all their family and friends, and this will be a time where God will be glorified and revealed. Praise God!

My prayers have been with Wade and his family since I first heard. My son is a student at Purdue and I cannot even imagine what Wade’s family is going through. I haven’t been able to sleep without having nightmares. My prayers and everyone I know is praying.

Suzanne 01.21.07 at 5:41 pm

My prayers are with you and the family as well. My son attends Purdue and I had thought it a very safe town and campus. I thought maybe Wade had fallen and was hurt somewhere, but of course we pray he is found quickly and is safe. Wade seems to have a very loving family and a school who cares about him. Keep us updated as there really isn’t much media news about this except the one little interview on Fox News with his parents.

Ivan the Crank 01.21.07 at 7:42 pm

Thanks to all of you for your prayers, spreading the word and your kind words. I know that our world is a big place, but the response that is happening in reaction to Wade’s disappearance reminds me of how small our world really is. See the next post and my response to Bene Diction’s listing of related web sites to see the latest that I know.

Danielle 01.21.07 at 7:56 pm

I go to school with Wade, and all the students here are pulling together to help find him. I do not know him but some of my good friends are good friends of his. We are all praying at school for him and want him to come back safe. We have been looking all over and we pray all day for him. I keep praying and I hope everyone else will too.

Rita Lehman 01.21.07 at 8:19 pm

I continue to lift Wade, your family, those searching and Purdue and Bloomington friends and loved ones in prayer. My 18 year old son is a Purdue student and my heart breaks at the pain precious Wade’s parents are going through. Stay positive! May God’s love keep you strong.

Jeri Steffey Bates 01.21.07 at 8:27 pm

North Carolina has many prayers going up for Wade and his family — Wade is actually my 4th cousin, and Dawn’s brother, Lane, is a friend of our family here in Clemmons, NC. We’re hoping that Wade is found soon — safely!

Karen 01.21.07 at 9:46 pm

My son knew Wade from pole vaulting at Bloomington South and I have been aware of the story from almost the beginning. I have been including Wade and his family in my prayers vigilantly since the news of his disappearance. I will continue to keep them in my prayers until we can bring him home to his family.

Kelli 01.21.07 at 9:56 pm

Thank you for all of the prayers. Please also continue to convey the story and photos of Wade. I’m Wade’s cousin (my dad and his dad are brothers). We have no idea how far Wade could have gotten but my husband and I, volunteers and family have spent days searching Purdue’s campus and some nearby river banks and cemetaries. Keep talking and keep sharing the story. We just want to bring him home.

Sara 01.22.07 at 12:29 am

My son is a freshman at Purdue and knows Wade. OUr prayers and thoughts are with the family that Wade will be found safe.

Christine 01.22.07 at 2:19 am

I have been keeping Wade in my prayers since nearly the beginning of this ordeal. I do not know Wade or his family, but feel the need to reach out and let you know that someone else out there is thinking about you and hoping for a safe return. I live in West Lafayette and will keep my eyes and ears open.

Rita 01.22.07 at 2:36 am

News update: An expert former FBI Agent and current member of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children is scheduled to arrive on campus Monday, January 22. Purdue Police Captain Tim Potts says “Not only will the agent provide us with an outside perspective, we will be able to tap its extensive database of cases to look for matches.”

Barbara 01.22.07 at 7:34 am

I am praying for Wade’s safe return. My daughter is also a freshman at Purdue and also had lunch in Ford that day, so I can’t even imagine the pain and desperation to hear news of his safe return

Richard 01.22.07 at 9:32 am

I’ll be praying for Wade and all your family, Ivan.

Ivan the Crank 01.22.07 at 12:44 pm

This is Debbie, Ivan’s wife. Thank you to all for the prayers for Wade and his family. It just goes to show how we are all connected in God’s family. Keep praying and looking.

kathy 01.22.07 at 2:06 pm

My family and I are praying for Wade and his family. My daughter is a Sophmore at Purdue and Wade was in one of her classes.
As a freshman she would often be walking from one dorm to the other late at night. She always assured us she was fine and it was a safe campus. The world we live in know is so unpredictable. Lets hope and pray for a safe return for Wade.

David Johnson 01.22.07 at 2:56 pm

My daughter is a Junior at Purdue and belongs to Alpha Phi sorority which is right across the street from the fraternity where Wade was last seen. It is so hard to believe that someone of Wade’s character could disappear this way especially in such a nice place as Purdue. Not an hour has gone by , since I heard the news of his disappearance, that I haven’t said a prayer for him for his safety. I’ll continue to do so until this is all resolved hopefully on a very positive note. Please accept my thoughts and prayers for his safe return.

Bill 01.22.07 at 4:38 pm

I am a Purdue faculty member. We are troubled and saddened by this disappearance and want the family to know that many many faculty have been on their knees in prayer to lift the family and pray for Wade’s safety. Professors and staff have also been part of the search process. Three days ago, I searched approximately 5 miles along some railroad tracks and two ponds that border campus (obviously, no results). We hold out hope that he will be located and found to be alive and well. God’s special peace to all involved, especially to Wade’s parents and family. This campus will not rest until Wade is found.

Judi Romaine 01.22.07 at 4:50 pm

I live in Bloomington, IN where Wade grew up, have been an acquaintance of Dawn and Dale for more than 25 years as we often exhibited at art shows together. As the mother of a 22 year old daughter at Indiana Univeresity, my thoughts, prayers and intentions for a safe return have been continuously with the family, are are all the people of Bloomington - Judi

Mary 01.22.07 at 5:03 pm

I too have a son who is a freshman at Purdue and have been praying for Wade and family since I heard the news. I have also asked our church family to pray also.

Sandra 01.22.07 at 5:23 pm

We too have a child at Purdue (same major as Wade’s) - she tells us how painful it is to be in class just staring at Wade’s empty desk. WHY ISN’T THIS CASE ON NATIONAL NEWS??? I have my church (in Michigan)praying for the family and for Wade but I want to do something more. WHAT CAN WE DO? All of us feel that Wade was our son, too. Please, God, put Wade safely back where he belongs.

Cindy 01.22.07 at 5:41 pm

Please know that I’m praying for Wade and his family. My son is a runner at IU - just a year ahead of Wade. I can’t fathom what his family and friends must be going through. Stay strong, seek comfort in the arms of your loved ones, and just know that wherever Wade is and whatever he’s going through - God is there with him and for him. Please keep posting - I search the the papers and news channels daily for an update about him - he’s on my mind constantly. Best wishes.

Megan 01.22.07 at 6:46 pm

As a fellow Purdue student my heart goes out to the family and friends. It is sad to look all over campus and see flyers posted, while helicopter fly over head. I can only pray and hope for a safe return home. No one can imagine what his parents are going through at this time. May god watch over them.

Good Bless

Bilva 01.23.07 at 8:57 am

Diane 01.24.07 at 12:24 am

My son is a Purdue freshman and also ran with Wade at Bloomington South. The sadness I feel is impossible to describe. May God give Dale and Dawn the strength and courage as they await news. THe whole Steffey family will continue to be in my prayers daily.

Linda 01.25.07 at 11:58 pm

I have 5 children and live in Bloomington. I have always had the fear of this nature happening to one of mine. It’s unimagineable what the family is going through. I have 3 children that have graduated from South and one still there. Wade you and your family are in our daily prayers for a safe return for you and strength for your family at this awful time. God be with you.

A Purdue Mom 01.27.07 at 3:10 pm

My thoughts and prayers are with Wade and his family at all times. I can’t stop thinking about him. I have 2 sons at Purdue and always worry about their safety as any Mother does about her children, but this intensifies my worry. I want you to know that this story has been on T.V. in Iowa, but I only saw it one time (I believe it was on Fox News?). It was in our paper as well. I would like to see this on the news more often, nationwide to keep Wade in people’s minds and hearts. May God be with the family and friends and especially with Wade.

Nancy 01.27.07 at 7:43 pm

Ever since I heard the news I have been in daily prayer for Wade, his family, his friends, and the police. My son is a freshman at Purdue also, and although he did not know Wade, there is a bond among all Purdue students and they all feel the pain. I know our God hears our prayers and through His grace we will have peace. May the experts that have recently joined the search make quick progress to find Wade. I promise to keep praying until Wade’s safe return.

Bloomington resident 01.29.07 at 4:17 am

I still pray Wade will return home safely. I feel a great deal for your family. I live in Bloomington. Although I do not know the Steffey family, I feel so much for them. My brother went to Purdue for two years. From seeing Wade’s dorm on TV, it looks like the same dorm, I cannot ask my brother: About a month and a half ago, my brother died tragically. Although I know there is no way I can know what they Steffey’s are going through, and every grief is different, my family and I have been thinking, praying, and empathizing for the Steffey’s since we heard. I know before my brother died and something terrible happened (like when Jill Behrman, another Bloomington resident went missing) we would say we couldn’t even imagine how terrible it would be to lose someone tragically. You just can’t until it happens to you. I pray Wade returns safely and your family does not have to go through anymore pain, but regardless, I pray for answers so that his parents and family can move forward, as hard as it is. I know that it is a pain so deep, and I know prayer was the only thing that allowed us through all the pain. I really wish there was a way to take this pain away. May God be with all of you.

Ivan the Crank 01.29.07 at 9:04 pm

Thank you to the Bloomington resident who has shared from your experience that no one else can even comprehend let alone understand unless they have gone through it themselves. I am so sorry for the loss of your brother, and I know that Wade’s family appreciates your empathy.

Camille from Indianapolis 02.03.07 at 2:29 am

Everyday, I check on the status of Wade in hopes that he is found safely. Since I heard of him disappearing, I have prayed for his safe return on a daily basis. I have also prayed for his parents. It’s so tragic, it breaks my heart. I pray too, for all who are searching for him and that someone will find him or have the strength and courage to come forward with information of his whereabouts or clues of any kind that will lead to his safe return back home and give him back to the ones who love him.
