Wade Steffey

by Bene Diction on January 20, 2007

Further to Ivan’s post below about his missing nephew, while Richard and friends attend Michael Blakey’s memorial, prayers turn to 19 year old Wade S. Steffey, his family, friends and those searching for him.

Information on Wade has gone out across the US, he went missing from the West Lafayette Purdue campus.

While hundreds of students parents and officals have been doing a ground search, students have also been working online on blogs to get information out on his disappearance.

Correction: From Ivan:Wade is my wife’s first cousin once removed. His mom, Dawn Adams, and my wife Debbie are first cousins. Wade and my son, Chris, are the same age.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has taken up the case of missing Purdue University freshman Wade S. Steffey.

The school today announced that a member of the center’s Team Adam — who was previously with the FBI — will arrive on campus Monday to assist with the investigation.

“The center’s help will be very significant,” said Purdue police Capt. Tim Potts in a prepared statement. “Not only will the agent provide us with an outside perspective, we will be able to tap the center’s extensive database of cases to look for matches. Wade’s information will be added to the database as well.”

Thanks so much for putting all the related sites out there. You never know when someone will read something or put two and two together and be able to provide some valuable information. It is also very gratifying to know so many people are praying for Wade’s safe return. I also realize that this must conjure up thoughts about Michael Blakey, and I didn’t realize that this is the time of his memorial. My thoughts and prayers continue to go out to Michael’s family and friends.

In an interesting coincidence, one of my church members came up to me after first service today. I knew she was from West Lafayette, IN originally and that she still has family there, but I was amazed to find out that her brother is the lead investigator in Wade’s disappearance. Purdue University is so large that it has its own exceptional police force. Cindy’s brother and my brother-in-law, an Orange County, FL deputy, have already been in contact to share insights and things that might not have already been investigated.

One note of correction. Wade is my wife’s first cousin once removed. His mom, Dawn Adams, and my wife Debbie are first cousins. Wade and my son, Chris, are the same age.

Again, thanks for all the prayers and the help getting the word out, Bene!

At this moment, there is no new news. They were not able to find the cell phone, even though the campus was throroughly searched. They are now bringing in specially trained dogs to search cars and builings, etc..

Thank you for the correction Ivan, my heart goes out to you and your family.
I am amazed at the people stepping forward to do all they can to find Wade.

I understand one of the police officers actively involved in the search has a blog, I’m sorry I wasn’t able to find it.

BD - thanks for posting all the links that you have. It’s amazing how something like this can effect a person when you actually know the people involved. By the way, I don’t want anyone to think that Debbie and I are in the thick of the search. We, being in Florida, are simply trying to get word out like so many others and Debbie’s being their cousin is just part of the deal. But, let’s keep praying and spreading the word. Ivan

I’m thoughts and prayers go out to Wade’s family & friends… the Purdue community has really embraced this difficult situation. I wish that I could do more… and I’d love to know if I can do something. I am a Purdue grad - grew up my entire life in Indiana, but I live so far away now - Charlotte, NC… I’ve been e-mailing America’s Most Wanted daily - to have them get information on their website - finally today, I see that they have him on there….. Bring Wade back home safely!!!!

I am so sorry for what you are going through. I am praying for Wade’s safe return. I have 2 sons, 19 and 20. The 20 year old is away at college. I look at Wade and he looks so much like my child. My heart melted when I heard this story. I am praying for you to find him.

Again, thank you to everyone for all the concern and prayers and insights. Nikki, way to go with pursuing America’s Most Wanted - I wondered how that got to them! We here in Florida feel at a loss as to how to help Dale and Dawn other than just keeping the word out there, praying and encouraging, like all of the rest of you are doing. What’s scary is to know that Wade is not the only person who has simply disappeared and to think that some of those who have have not been heard from for years. That’s a long time for the lives of those closest to the missing person to be put on hold. Our first prayer is for safe return. Our second is for swift resolution one way or the other for Wade, Dawn and Dale’s sakes.

I’m trying to do whatever I can!! My little sister is a senior at Purdue, and I thought that if anything ever happened to her or any of my other siblings, I’d hope that complete strangers would help make a difference. I do feel a connection to Wade - maybe because I so recently graduated from Purdue (’01), another sister graduate, one attending now, and another to attend next year. Purdue is dear to me, and the students attending - are kind of like a family…
I don’t know if it will help, but I’ve also been e-mailing Nancy Grace (from CNN) and Oprah - to see if there would be any possibility of getting the word out about Wade’s disappearance. And, I’ll keep e-mailing them until they tell me to stop - or - we find Wade. I do pray ALL the time for Wade and his family. I pray that his parents will continue to have strength and perserverance to get through this time… Phil 4:13

The more people who are aware of Wade’s disappearance, the more there are on the lookout for him or anyone that might be acting strangely or behaving in non-characterstic ways. The key is for people to report anything to authorities and let them sort it out. Nikki, keep up the great pursuit!

I am a Brazilian teacher and journalist and I know about Wade disappearing on Fox News and I am in good thoughts here for him and to his back home safety and soon.
I am not a prayer, but I believe in Universe power and I am sure that all these prays will result in a big force to find him well.

Laura Linger 01.29.07 at 1:44 am

I just found out about Wade’s disappearance, and I immediately wrote a blog entry about it.

Until Wade is found, his Missing Persons flyer will remain the graphic at the top of my sidebar. Readers can click on the graphic, which will take them to a larger version of the flyer.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do. I have an international readership and I couldn’t let Wade’s story go without my readers knowing about it. I will also encourage them, who are all bloggers, to spread the word.

I do this in the name of Boilermaker friendship, for the honor of Old Purdue.

I think Laura’s idea of having Wade’s “missing person” flier posted on as many websites as possible is a great way to get word out about Wade and remind all of us not only of his siutation, but the many others who have been missing so much longer as well. Kelly, posting his flier on your web site would be a great way to help. Thanks for thoughts, prayers and help of all kinds.

I have grown children as well as one that is 14 years old, I can’t even begin to imagine what Wade’s parents are going through. This is a parents worse nightmare. I will pray God will give wade’s parents strength as well as the rest of Wade’s family, friends and the people searching endlessly. God Bless you all. I will also pray for Wade to be found happy and well and that justice be served swiftly on any persons involved in Wade’s disappearance.

I am a college student myself at IU, I am praying for his safe return, and for his freinds and family at their time of need. Bless all of you.I hope that he will be found safe and sound very soon.

Tanzi 03.07.07 at 6:56 pm

I just saw on Fox News that the “guest list” to the Frat Party that Wade attended was thrown away. They were hoping to know all who had attended this party.

While the list may have been thrown away, you can’t tell me the list isn’t on somebody’s harddrive somewhere. Nobody hand writes a list anymore, it’s all done on the computer. They should not give up on getting this list….it’s got to be on somebody’s computer.

Truly a sad time for the Steffey family, dealing with the tragic death of their son.

But, it sure didn’t take them long to go after the ‘almighty dollar’. It is so sad to see where our society is going.
