This preacher has the diagnosis. I can’t make my mind up whether his exegegis is creative genius, or just bonkers. On second thoughts, yes I can. In fact, I have a hard time believing that it isn’t a spoof, but it comes via Dave Walker, and he got it from Real Live Preacher, so it must be true. Anyway, enjoy the video, but be warned that his focus is a phrase in 1 Kings 14:10 as it is translated in the King James Version, and you may not like it.
As I think about it, I notice that every time that phrase is used in the Bible (I’m not being coy - I don’t want to spoil the surprise for those who like surprises) it is used in the context of God’s judgement. So perhaps the Bible is telling us that we should sit, not stand. What do you think? This is clearly an important text: we should give proper attention to what it means for the church today.

I think I’m going back to the good old King James Bible - solid wholesome stuff.
Seriously I was struggling with what to preach on this Sunday - it ’s going to be something!

V: This is the Word of the Lord.
R: Thanks be to God!
Next time my wife (who teaches German) says, “KIM! You left the toilet seat up!”, I shall reply, “That’s to show you that I’m a real man!”
By the way, there’s a hypothesis for anthropologists to explore on the origins of the Great Wall of China; perhaps it suggests that the Chinese people are the lost tribe of Israel.

Sadly, the German student I spoke to today poured scorn on the notion of signs in Germany forbidding the passing of urine while upright.
You might be onto something about the Chinese, although Hadrian’s Wall might be used to make a similar point.
Offa’s Dyke would prove something entirely different.

By the way, reading Nehemiah 3 will never be the same again!

In 1947, the U.N. said to Israel, “You’re a Nation.” You can bet they were standing up, not sitting down, when they did so!

Man, I’m glad I’m a woman!

And now for our closing hymn, we’ll sing all four stanzas of “Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus”.

I hate to ruin this fun with a question, but does the Hebrew text support the King James translation?
If so, why do modern Bibles hide it? It reminds me of Victorian translations of Greek plays that take out all the bawdy language.
