The Ten Worst Movies About Jesus

by Richard on May 30, 2008

From The Wittenburg Door. They don’t count The Passion of the Christ because, as it says, “that would be too easy”. Two of my favourite Jesus films made the list too, which is a bit irritating. And I haven’t seen Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter, though you can count on me making every effort to find it on DVD now.

Any road up, see what you make of it: The Ten Worst Movies About Jesus

I have watched (and have on DVD) Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter; obviously I’m in the minority but I thinks it’s brilliant.

Pasolini’s film, I thought, was brilliant. I agree with the others however, even if I haven’t seen them (Zombie Jesus??)

I have recently watched The Gospel of John. Now I thought that was good, apart from the guy playing Jesus (mostly a good actor and very likeable as the Son of Man), who everytime he said “I tell you the truth!” appeared about to burst into song.

By the way, I check out your blog everyday. Just wanted you to know that :)

Do you guys ever wonder whether this sort of cynicism is damaging?

James, do you mean the damage done by the mercenary cynicism of producers who make crap movies to cash in on Jesus?

“producers who make crap movies to cash in on Jesus?” Kim, your cynicism here is a perfect example of what I’m talking about.

Just to add to the cynicism, I would say that the Church has been cashing in on Jesus for the past couple millennia - why shouldn’t the poor film producers get a slice of the action?
