Puzzles of the age #357

Why is it that there can’t be one standard way of taking waste water away from a washing machine or dishwasher? And why are the hoses you’ve got always just a few inches too short?

I think we should be told.

And how come the electric sockets always seems to end up inaccessible behind the furniture? And how come it’s not till you think you’ve fitted everything perfectly into the available space in the kitchen that you remember you need somewhere to store the veg you’ve not got round to buying yet, having lived off chocolate cake and frozen meatballs from previously mentioned Swedish superstore for the whole week of the move?

Don’t you know, Richard, that you’re not supposed to move from one house to another? If you’d stayed put, all of the hoses would be of just the right length!
Also, this is one of the ways in which plumbers and appliance repairmen stay happily in business. :-)

And how come when you move into a completely new home and a completely new neighborhood and you are the first residents, your address does not show up on anyone’s list? We’ve had lots of minor repair calls on our new place, but to get the garbage and recyleables picked up, the mail delivered properly and any other thing that required someone looking our address up took more work than it was worth. I even bought my first GPS and we are an arrow in the middle of a field as far as it’s concerned.
