Fr Francis, RIP

by Richard on November 29, 2009

It is with some sadness that I’ve learned of the death of Fr Francis McKenna, one of my former colleagues in Swansea. His funeral homily is on the Belmont Abbey website. It rings very true to my experience of him. He had a great sense of fun and, in the words of one of his students, an acerbic wit.

Go with God, Francis. It was a privilege to have known you.

I heard not long ago myself. Prayers for Francis’ repose and the comfort of those that knew him. A lovely man.

I feel ashamed that I have not found out for two years of the passing of Fr Francis. He was my housemaster whilst at Belmont, and although we did not always see eye to eye, I grew to love him as my surrogate father. Obviously, I did not have those feelings whilst still at Belmont, but learning of his death this evening, albeit two years late, has brought many tears to my eyes.
God bless you Frank, I hope you are not resting, but enjoying the afterlife as I know you know how! XXX
