Hymn of the day

by Richard on January 31, 2010

All praise to our redeeming Lord,
Who joins us by his grace;
And bids us, each to each restored,
Together seek his face.

He bids us build each other up;
And, gathered into one,
To our high calling’s glorious hope,
We hand in hand go on.

The gift which He on one bestows,
We all delight to prove;
The grace through every vessel flows,
In purest streams of love.

E’en now we think and speak the same,
And cordially agree;
Concentered all, through Jesus’ name,
In perfect harmony.

We all partake the joy of one;
The common peace we feel;
A peace to sensual minds unknown,
A joy unspeakable.

And if our fellowship below
In Jesus be so sweet,
What height of rapture shall we know
When round his throne we meet!

Charles Wesley

Clearly this hymn has something to say to situations of conflict. That’s why I posted it.

Can you give a source for the story? I haven’t seen it anywhere else.

I love this hymn ans my wife and I always smile at the one verse because of something that happened at a friend’s wedding. The bride’s mother had typed the service sheets and the words of the hymns and had changed peace for peach which of course gave us the ‘common peach’. I always have this vision of a peach being passed around the congregation.

That’s a great story, fp :)

Dave Walker could turn it into a cartoon!

On the other hand, there is the old Irish toast:

To live above with saints we love
will be the purest glory.
To live below with saints we know -
now that’s a different story!

I’ll raise my glass to that.

Richard, I’m trying to get an email address for you for that very purpose (Paul is going to send it to me later today). I will be in touch off-line. David.
