Tell me something I didn’t know

by Richard on December 17, 2004

Don’t ask me why, but I took the Worldview Weekend.com test to see how my worldview rated. Gues what? Apparently I’m a “Socialist Worldview Thinker “, and in some sections I’m a “Communist/Marxist/Socialist/Secular Humanist Worldview Thinker”. Gosh!

But you knew that already. So did I.

What interested me was the scale they used which ranks a “Secular Humanist Worldview Thinker” above a “socialist”, which is in turn not so bad as a “Communist/Marxist/Socialist/Secular Humanist”. Can anyone tell me what that’s all about?

Yet another example of a group saying that if you disagree with their reading of the Bible then you are “unbiblical”. I can live with that shame.

Richard:

Not sure if you’ve seen it, but Jack Heller has this excellent article in the current issue of the New Pantagruel on this very topic. It follows his essay in the previous issue (vol 1, no. 3) where he notes that he, a professor at a Christian college, flunked the “Worldview Test.”

Cheers!

I’m a socialist worldview thinker. No surprise there, except that Richard’s both more of a communist and more of a secular humanist than I.

But, of course, it’s a terrible, terrible thing. What I need to do is enrol on one of their worldview courses, so that I can willingly give myself over to a truly biblical process of indoctrination.

did I say ‘indoctrination’? I mean, gee sir, a true understanding of God’s own country. I mean bible. Dammit, i’m starting to think like a darn commie, yes siree.

I came out as a “Moderate Biblical Worldview Thinker”, which makes sense for a Catholic, since we believe Scripture has authority because the Church vouches for it, not on its own accord. Also, we believe there are truths not taught explicitly in Scripture.

Your classification is: Moderate Biblical Worldview Thinker

Section: Civil Government Socialist Worldview Thinker
Section: Economics Secular Humanist Worldview Thinker
Section: education Secular Humanist Worldview Thinker
Section: family Moderate Biblical Worldview Thinker
Section: Law Secular Humanist Worldview Thinker
Section: Religion Strong Biblical Worldview Thinker

Considering I am a Calvinist, this just shows how biased the test is!!

Moderate biblical worldview thinker. 54%. The test is very loaded and biased and also very un-Wesleyan, particularly in its concepts of grace and judgment, so I wouldn’t put a lot of stock into how I came out.

Secular Humanist Worldview Thinker 46%

Section: Civil Government Secular Humanist Worldview Thinker
Section: Economics Secular Humanist Worldview Thinker
Section: education Socialist Worldview Thinker
Section: family Secular Humanist Worldview Thinker
Section: Law Socialist Worldview Thinker
Section: Religion Moderate Biblical Worldview Thinker
Section: Science Secular Humanist Worldview Thinker
Section: Social Issues Moderate Biblical Worldview Thinker

I’ve also noticed that the test assumes that it’s best to have an opinion about everything. The couple of times I did not have an opinion, I got two negative points. That biases the test even more.
