For the love of God the Father,
we lift our hearts;
birthing children whom he mothers,
we lift our hearts;
for his bold imagination
in the act of our creation,
and our wondrous variation,
we lift our hearts.
For the grace of Christ eternal,
we praise his name;
coming from his throne supernal,
we praise his name;
for the challenge of his teaching,
for his hand to rebels reaching,
and the gates of hell all-breaching,
we praise his name.
For the friendship of the Spirit,
we sing our song;
irrespective of our merit,
we sing our song;
for the living water gushing,
and the cooling breezes rushing,
full of force but never crushing,
we sing our song.

Ooh, I could have done with that this morning - although funnily enough I used the same metre for a new Pentecost hymn last week:
Present at the world’s creation,
Spirit of God;
summoning a chosen nation,
Spirit of God;
swift to guide and to deliver
through the wilderness and river;
sanctifying Lord, life-giver,
Spirit of God.
Yours a power beyond all measure;
we worship you.
Source of courage, wisdom’s treasure:
we worship you.
Lord, inspiring prophets’ vision,
overcoming all division;
Lord who calls us to decision,
we worship you.
Spirit, by your proclamation
all now are one.
Culture, status, generation -
all now are one.
Every tribe and tongue addressing,
truth of Jesus Christ confessing,
turning Babel into blessing:
all now are one.
Seeds for future harvest sowing,
speak to us now.
Gifts revealing, grace bestowing,
speak to us now.
You have shaped our past tradition,
you restore and recondition;
fit us now for our commission:
speak to us now!
