As it is, I’m just off to preach on Isaiah 43:1-5. The politicians are going to get a roasting, the Lord a boasting.

For inspiration, see Scott Bader-Saye, Following Jesus in a Culture of Fear (2007).

Well here is my verbal desription of an Emergent pastor:

“blah, blah, blah, consumerism, blah, blah, anti-modernity,blah, blah, blah, since everyone doesn’t make the same money it isn’t fair so social justice, blah, blah, blah, “coexist”,blah, blah, blah, pascifism/just war, blah, blah, blah, Sojourners, blah, blah,”

You’ve been deceived into believing relativism/universalism

I think, DH, you’re in the wrong thread. But then the non-sequitur is in your DNA.

I guess Kim, I’m trying to see what the point of the thread is. The character in the post seems to be a pastor and I know no pastor who promotes “fear” on those particular topics or says “condemnation” as portrayed in the post. I see more pastors giving an answer and a call to Salvation, repentence and a personal relationship with God in love. Are there an extreme minority who preach this way? sure the cartoon it is not something that really makes sense in real life because this situation is in fact few and far between.

I will say and have said before Kim, Chris H and those who agree with the cartoon, If a guy preached “repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand” would you ridicule the guy like this post or would you be drawn to it?

Remember this is what John the Baptist said and we all know what Jesus said about him “Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there has not risen a greater than John the Baptist…” Matth 11:11 and even Jesus preached “Repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand.” Matt 4:17 and John the Baptist preach it as well Matt. 2:2

DH, the cartoon is about politics, and your ‘pastor’ is in fact a politician. He is a member of our current CONservative/Liberal DEMocrat coalition, which for the record is currently doing exactly what ASBOJesus suggests.
And for the record, I’ve seen Kim called many things on here, but I think an Emergent pastor just about takes the biscuit!

Graham, my example was not in reference to Kim but to an opposing example which happens to be Emergent (if we assume, like I did, that it was a pastor). However, thanks for pointing that out. It makes more sense. I didn’t make the contection to a politician but to a pastor. Thanks for the help. :)

Now that I understand the cartoon, is it really the politicians fault that there was a global financial meltdown other than trying provide housing to people who truly couldn’t afford it causing more foreclosures making the underlying assets of the notes banks held lose value dramatically? With regard to terrorism, is it the politicians fault that we have terrorists and should there be some response to the terrorists as opposed to living in denial when thousands of innocent people have died at the hands of terrorists?

As a liberal commie-fascist terrorist-coddling lowercase christian who says Jesus is Lord but despises three-fourths of the Bible (I only like the parts about social justice!), I would have to say I find “Repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand” utterly repulsive.

Satisfied, DH? Because your original question was already bordering on the insulting, suggesting Christians to the left of yourself might have a problem a call to repentance.

correction: “problem with a call to repentance.”

How is it repulsive when John the Baptist’s, or for that matter Jesus Himself on this particular call, preaching was not unlike much of the preaching you find reprehensible? Based on that, how is it that my statement was bordering on insulting?

I wasn’t suggesting that Christians who are on the left have a problem with repentence as a whole. I was focusing on the clear attitude behind the “call to repentence” by John the Baptist and even Jesus and how similar in attitude the preaching by preachers I support that you don’t support are similar therein. Scripture states that John the Baptist would yell “Repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand.” Unbiased how is that unlike the sermons of Christians on the right (which I support) state? Maybe instead of ridiculing the Christian pastors on the right maybe we need to see how they are similar, acknowledge how that can promote change in peoples lives for eternity? I’m not saying that some don’t preach without love for many do. However, we all need to do better (including myself) for proper discernment of these issues and people within the Body of Christ. Just because something may understandable seem “strange” in the natural doesn’t mean we should cast it aside.
