I am reminded of a postcard a church member of mine recently bought on a holiday to the US and passed on to me (I put it on our church notice board for a while). It shows a photograph of Geronimo standing with three of his warriors - all armed - during a conference with General George Cook in the Sierra Madre Mountains in 1886. At the top of the postcard, above the warriors’ heads, are the words “HOMELAND SECURITY” … and on the bottom of the postcard: “Fighting terrorism since 1492″.
Yes, the indigenous people of America have a different take on the conquest paradigm lifted from Joshua and deployed as a biblical justification for the genocide that would later be spun as the doctrine of manifest destiny.
